Christo and Jeanne-Claude

I also looked at the artists, Christo and Jean-Claude who wrapped buildings and various structures in cloth for temporary exhibitions. The following photos show examples of some of their work and how they can relate to mine.

The Reichstag, Berlin

Wrapped Coast, Sydney

Central Park Gates, New York City

Pont Neuf, Paris

  1. Review from Tessa

Richard's detail included a brick surface with a protruding bolt and a canvas overlay, separated from the brick surface by about 10cm. As can be seen above he was looking at the idea of "clothing" a building, and also at the idea of panelling. His site was located on The Strand down in Parnell and the building would be "clothed" in canvas, but with a space between this cover and the existing building. I thought this idea was really interesting, and a unique way to adapt an old building and make it more contemporary. I think he needed to consider the brief we were given a lot more as there wasn't any addressing of the colleagues or an office space design. I also think coming up with his own way of presenting the concept and making it more individual to his project would have made his design stronger. I thought his drawings were sufficient but could be more detailed to make them easier to understand.

Overall I found the basic idea fascinating and definitely a really unique approach to the subject but there needed to be more work done to further clarify the design and it's relation the the site and the brief.
